We had a ball at the Hilton Hotel in Cardiff last October, when we celebrated our win of the National Lottery Childrens' Champions Award, and I'm pleased to say that recently we were able to enjoy more award success!
This time, we celebrated glory at the Wales Co-Operatvie Centre's 25th Anniversary Gala Dinner, with myself being nominated for the Wales Young Co-Operative of the Year Award. I was ecstatic when my name was called for the award!
Amyway, UCAN continues to thrive and shows off its name to more and more people, and in the past few months we have had many new members joining in at our workshops across Wales. If you haven't already joined us in the fun, then do!
Looking ahead, we are looking forward immensely to the visit from the Milton Margai School for the Blind Choir, who are coming to the U.K all the way from Sierra Leone in Africa. If it wasn't for this inspirational group of blind children less fortunate than ourselves, then UCAN may not have ever come into existence. Bernie and Jane Latham set up our organisation as a direct result of their visit to the school back in 2003.
They will be coming to Cardiff at the beginning of August, residing at the Urdd Centre in Cardiff Bay. They will perform in several concerts over 5 days; some of these in conjuction with UCAN members. They will also be performing to Welsh First Minister Rhodri Morgan, before moving on in their U.K. tour to Hull and London.
There is also a big UCAN workshop on offer at the end of the summer – we'll keep you posted on this.
See you soon
Lloyd.
